The Future of SHCPA

Learn about the Future of the Shoreline Hi Cap Parent Association (SHCPA)! The slide show from the October 30, 2019 community meeting is posted below, with new board position descriptions at the bottom of the page.
We welcome your involvement in the following board positions for the 2020-21 academic year! The following descriptions may be subject to an update as the bylaws are created at a later point in time:
- President (or two Co-Presidents): Sets agenda for board meetings; attends quarterly meetings with the district Hi Cap office; determines operating budget and calendar of events with executive team; networks with other Hi Cap parent groups and PTA; attends school board meetings and/or regional conferences as necessary
- Treasurer: Establishes new payment processing system (e.g. PayPal) and bank account; works with president to create annual operating budget and fundraising opportunities; submits annual informational return to I.R.S. and annual notification/renewal(s) with the Office of the Secretary of State (Olympia)
- Secretary: Creates a record-system system of meeting minutes, incorporation documents, bylaws, financials, etc.; prepares correspondence as necessary; assists president with forming meeting agendas; takes minutes at the board meetings
- Advocacy: Keeps a pulse on issues on local, state, and national fronts regarding gifted education; communicates legislative initiatives involving Highly Capable in our state; organizes for participation in annual Gifted Education Day events in Olympia
- Communications: Oversees tasks and/or maintenance involving newsletter, website, gmail, and Facebook group/page; prepares submissions for Peachjar and other media channels as necessary; assists with the design of the annual SHCPA survey
- Community education/events: Works with executive committee to orchestrate a fall event and a spring event that highlight a theme/topic of interest and guest speaker(s); determines advertising needs; works jointly with Communications lead
- Fundraising: Coordinates fundraising drive or an "ask" for donations from our community with executive team
